Lincoln Nebraska Six Unit Apartment

1960’s Apartments Heat up in Downtown Lincoln Nebraska with Cove Heaters

Comfort Cove electric radiant heaters provided the perfect modern solution to the aged apartment units located downtown Lincoln Nebraska. Old leaky windows, lower level garages and poor insulation are just a few factors that lead to unhappy tenets with cold rooms and high electric bills. Here’s how Comfort Cove heaters provided more thermal comfort in this application.

The Comfort Cove home heater uses radiant heat, Heat at Light Speed®. Unlike areas heated by a convection or space heater, radiant heat is less affected by air changes or drafts. Since radiant heat does not rise like hot air, it heats anything in its path - up, down, or sideways - traveling in a straight line until it strikes an object. Radiant heat is unaffected by gravity, and will not fluctuate temperature. This efficient heating alternative warms floors and objects, as well as the air in a room, similar to the way the sun heats the earth.

Comfort Cove Zone Control
One of Comfort Cove heaters’ key benefits is it allows the user(s) ability to Zone Control each living space. This caters to varying lifestyles of the tenets or homeowners while giving users the option to only heat rooms that are being used, thus saving energy.

This 6 unit apartment floor plan was renovated with RadiantSystems Inc.’s Comfort Cove heaters. Cove heat costs less to retrofit than other heating systems. Comfort Cove radiant heating systems evenly spread radiant warmth throughout a room so placement is not critical. As shown below for this layout, interior walls can be unitized as heater locations, which reduces material and labor costs. Comfort Cove heaters mount high on the wall near the ceiling and out of the way making these heaters an ideal choice apartment heating.
Apartment Floor Plan with Suggested Heater Placement
Sizing varies by the application anywhere from 4-15 watts per square foot.  For the sizing of this application, Radiant Systems Inc., Engineering and Layout assistance opted for approximately 10 watts per square foot due to the heat loss issues. At ~10 watts per square foot, this allows for fast recovery with thermostat setback and enough available heat to maintain thermal comfort during harsh weather conditions.

Both Property Managers and tenets benefit from Comfort Cove heaters being maintenance free with no motors, belts, blowers, circuit boards, or filters to change. This in combination of a 10-Year Limited Warranty, makes it a reliable, efficient and safe choice for a long lasting apartment heating solution.

National Affordable Housing Network, Southwest Montana

Cold Climate Montana House Designs Complimented with Comfort Cove Radiant Heaters

For National Affordable Housing Network(NAHN), housing energy performance is top priority. NAHN says that, "for low-income and disadvantaged Americans, energy can represent more than 15 percent of their household budget. Many disadvantaged families must choose between food and heat, or between medicines and providing cooling vital to health."

For NAHN, houses were designed and built to use the least possible energy, water and natural resources, while having excellent health, safety and comfort characteristics. Their ‘cold-climate’ house plans contain all-electric heating systems consisting of electric radiant Cove Heaters. “We wanted high comfort and safety levels combined with the lowest possible annual operating cost and construction cost," says the NAHN website.

According to NAHN, these plans were acclaimed by Ned Nisson who wrote in The Superinsulated Home Book, “Their house plans are considered the best available.” Their detailed house plans are also designed with Habitat for Humanity affiliate partner families and homeowners in mind.

Below is just one of the many detailed house plans designed for Southwest Montana's cold climate conditions utilizing Comfort Cove radiant heaters.
